Challenge: Valio — Finland’s largest dairy manufacturer and a pioneer in dairy innovation — introduced Keittiön Kiehu®, a milk drink engineered to withstand boiling without burning on the bottom. This breakthrough product resolved a common kitchen frustration and offered new culinary possibilities, but it needed a packaging concept that could bridge early prototyping with a consumer-ready format. The challenge was to rapidly translate an experimental design solution into a functional, mass-produced packaging that would both communicate the product’s unique performance benefits and align with Valio’s trusted brand heritage.
Approach: We developed a concept-to-consumer packaging design process that kept innovation and clarity at the forefront. Starting with rapid prototyping, the design explored visual cues and structural formats that highlighted the product’s burn-proof attribute in a fresh, intuitive way. These concepts were iterated quickly and tested for visual impact and production feasibility. The final consumer packaging was designed to work at scale while visually communicating Valio’s expertise in dairy science and everyday functionality — positioning the product as both an innovative kitchen staple and a natural extension of Valio’s established range.
Outcome: The project successfully delivered a consumer-facing packaging design that transitioned smoothly from experimental concept to mass production. The new packaging clearly conveys the * Keittiön Kiehu®* product benefit — milk that’s easy to heat and hard to burn — while maintaining visual harmony with Valio’s broader brand universe. By linking Valio’s heritage of dairy innovation with a solution that genuinely improves everyday cooking, the packaging supports shelf standout and consumer understanding, helping the product find traction both in stores and in home kitchens nationwide
